Chris McBride

Research Assistant
For the past few years Chris McBride has worked on the design and implementation of web-accessible automated water quality monitoring stations. These stations form an integral part of the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON) which monitors anthropogenic effects on lakes worldwide. This work has caused an international demand for Chris's expertise and he has deployed monitoring buoys in lakes around New Zealand, as well as China and Singapore. Chris also regularly conducts “BioFish” spatial water quality surveys in Lake Taupo and the Rotorua Lakes. He is also skilled in numerical modelling of water quality, and has worked with the model DYRESM-CAEDYM to evaluate lake management options such as the Ohau diversion wall and land-use change. He has an active research interest in lake dynamics and nutrient cycling.
